Fields in the Studies Within Social Sciences

Social Sciences can be defined shortly as the study of man's society, social behavior and social activity. The study of human society can be traced back from its foundation during the time of the Greeks. During those times, philosophers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle started to show interest with the nature of the human society. In later years, several philosophers also contributed in the field of Social Sciences such as St. Thomas Aquinas, Thomas Hobbies, Niccolo Machiavelli and Confucius. August Comte was also credited as the father of Sociology. Comte believed that a rational and just society can be attained by the means of positivism.

There are two divisions of social sciences; one is the social statistics which is the study of the structure of society and the social dynamics, the division that deals with the social evolution development as well as change.

The social science is considered as broad body of knowledge. It covers the interaction of humans, social systems and social structures. Through the use of organized as well as systematic and experimentation, the social sciences formulates general truths and principles.

The social science covers different fields of studies; among of these fields are History, Anthropology, Political Science, Psychology, Economics, Geography and Axiology.

The field of History is a science that deals with the recordings of the significant events in the past. These events could be related into the political, economical, social or cultural dimensions of society.

The field of Anthropology is a science that deals with archaelogy, social linguistics, cultural history and others. This field studeis the behavior, culture and society of humans.

The field of Psychology is a science that deals with the study of the behavior and mental processes of man. This includes the human's learning, development, perceptions, emotions, man's creativity, disorders as well as personality.

The field of Political Science is a science that deals with the study of the distribution, relation, processes and development of political power. This is the study of the art and the science of government; its structure, character as well as its purpose.

The field of Sociology is the science that deals the study of the society and the social interactions of people.

The field of Economics is the science that deals with the study of how the different products ands services are produced, distributed and consumed in the society.

The field of Geography is the science that deals with the physical movement, conditions as well as distributions of things on Earth. This includes population, land use, vegetation,climate and others.

Axiology is the science that deals with the values such as those on ethics, religion or aesthetics.
